Homemade Burgundy Baked Beans -- from a can
Baked beans are a cornerstone of our home cooking memories. Someone's mama or daddy or grandaddy or aunt or grandma always showed up with a pan full of tender beans in rich sauce with a hint of sweetness, a touch of smoke and a little bit of tang.
We put all of that into our easy Burgundy Baked Beans. The one-dish recipe calls for canned beans. We combined our Duplin Gourmet Muscadine Carolina Mustard Sauce and Muscadine Smokehouse Grilling Sauce to quickly add that cooked-all-day flavor. A dash of dry Duplin Burgundy balances the sweetness of honey.
The final dose of deliciousness comes from a scattering of crispy bacon on top right before the beans go into the oven.
Burgundy Baked Beans are a hearty meal all on their own when paired with cornbread, but we love to top them with sliced and whole grilled sausages before we bring the pan of beans to the table. The robust combination is a tasty partner to a glass of that Duplin Burgundy. The dry wine captures the beans' sweetness and enhances those rich, smokey flavors of the beans and sausages.
