Black Magic Blackberry Margarita
This dark and delicious black margarita is sure to be a hit this Halloween, but don't stop there. Serve black margaritas for fancy events, New Year's Eve parties and alongside red goodies on Valentine's Day. The cocktail gets its color from activated charcoal, which you can find in the vitamin and supplement sections of retailers such as Target and Walmart.
Ingredients:
- For the black salt rim:
- 1 tablespoon sea salt
- 1 activated charcoal capsule
- For the margarita:
- 3 ounces Duplin Blackberry Wine
- 1½ ounces blanco Tequila
- ½ ounce Chambord (or other berry liqueur)
- 1-ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
- ½ ounce molasses
- 1 activated charcoal capsule
- Ice cubes
- 1 lime wedge or 1 tablespoon black cake frosting
- Quarter of a lime slice, for garnish
Directions:
- Make the black salt: Add the fine sea salt to a small bowl. Open up the charcoal capsule and shake contents over the salt. Mix well and transfer the mixture to a small shallow plate. Set aside.
- Make the margarita: Pour the Duplin Blackberry wine, tequila, Chambord, lime juice and molasses into a large canning jar or cocktail shaker. Open up the charcoal capsule and add the powder to the shaker. Drop in a handful of ice and shake for a few seconds.
- Rim the glass with lime juice or black frosting, but not both: Run a lime wedge along one side, including the rim, of the glass. Or, lightly coat one side of the glass, including the rim, with black frosting. Dip coated portion of the glass into the salt mixture. Pour margarita in the glass, being careful not to disturb the salt rim. Garnish with a little quarter slices of lime and/or fresh blackberries.
- Makes 1 serving.
