Blackberry Wine Cookies

You don't have to wait until it is fall to enjoy this recipe! This twist on the traditional German Wine Cookie replaces mulled wine with Duplin's Blackberry wine for a perfect pairing. This is sure to be a go-to cookie recipe for potlucks and family gatherings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup Duplin Blackberry wine
  • 5-5 ½ cups flour
  • 1 lb powered sugar
  • 1 to 2 TBSP milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat over to 375 degrees.

  2. Cream butter and sugar together.

  3. Beat in eggs, vanilla and Duplin Blackberry wine.

  4. Stir in flour, one cup at a time.

  5. The dough will be stiff. Roll out dough, on the well-floured pastry sheet, to ¼ inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with a cookie cutter.

  6. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes.

  7. Make the icing by combining the powder sugar, milk, vanilla and salt. (Should be almost runny consistency.)

  8. Frost cookies. These cookies will keep for up to one year in an airtight container.

 

*Serving ideas: add nutmeg to the batter to taste.
