How to air fry bacon for the best riff on a BLT sandwich
Our video series "Dine & Wine" showcases different recipes and cocktail mixes using Duplin Winery wines and gourmet products. Join our host, Frank, as he gets the dish on our Duplin family's favorite eats and drinks. If you have ideas for the show or if you're looking for a recipe, let us know in the comments. Cheers!
When it comes to the best sandwich, it's hard to beat the classic bacon, lettuce and tomato stack better known as a BLT. Something about that crunchy, salty bacon dancing with juicy, vine-ripe tomatoes and creamy mayonnaise always makes us send a blessing the unknown cook who first layered up these ingredients.
Just when you think this sandwich couldn't get any better, "Duplin Dine & Wine" host Frank comes up with an idea to marinate bacon in Duplin Goin' Coastal blush wine and replace the lettuce on a BLT with avocado.
Goin' Coastal's smooth sweetness elevates the bacon's cure and creates a delicate glaze that grabs the tomato's sweetness on Frank's creation. Avocado adds that layer of savory richness that pulls everything delicious about this sandwich together. You won't even miss the lettuce.
That's not the only reason Goin' Coastal works in the bacon marinade and as a wine to pair with this sandwich. Bacon and tomato sandwiches are summertime mainstays. They always show up when tomatoes turn red on the vine in June, July, August and right into December if you live near the beach.
It was seaside days that inspired Goin' Coastal wine, released in 2015. In summer 2020, we brought back the wine's vintage label showing a beach buggy loaded with surfboards and headed out to catch some waves.
If you don't live near the beach, sit back, relax, close your eyes and sip this wine. As we like to say, it makes you "go coastal." Can you hear the waves?
